CIO and Author Jerry Miccolis Explains Brinton Eaton’s Approach for Protecting Against the Downside While Enjoying the Upside
Madison, NJ – March 17, 2010 – Brinton Eaton, a boutique wealth advisory firm, today announced the release of its first in a series of educational podcasts on various relevant financial topics. The first podcast on “Portfolio Protection” features Senior Financial Advisor, Chief Investment Officer and author Jerry Miccolis discussing ways that investors can protect their portfolios against extreme downside fluctuations, while at the same time allowing their investments to enjoy full upside potential.
“Most people need to invest in risky assets to secure their long-term financial future, but are concerned about the short-term behavior of those assets,” says Miccolis. “Portfolio protection is a means of helping to immunize your portfolio from market declines that are extreme — outside the realm of normal volatility — such as we experienced in late 2008/early 2009.”
The challenge, Miccolis explains, has always been that most forms of protection, such as protective put options, are so expensive that they divert too much of an investor’s capital from other productive uses in the portfolio. “After painstaking research and analysis, investigation into products available from major financial institutions, and pushing the industry to develop a solution that met our exacting standards, we arrived at an approach that should work very well for our clients, and is also cost effective. The approach incorporates a product that was designed by Deutsche Bank, and is called EMERALD — a loose acronym for Equity Mean Reversion Alpha Index,” adds Miccolis. Brinton Eaton’s approach is designed to provide a downside “safety net” while leaving clients’ portfolios fully exposed to upside opportunities.
